Bengaluru: Mount Carmel College has recently unveiled a transformative change in its admissions policy. The institution, known for its rich history of female-centric education, is now opening its doors to male students across all academic disciplines.
Reflecting on this paradigm shift, Swati, a graduating student from Mount Carmel, shared her insights on the matter. "Now that I'm graduating, I know I wouldn't be a part of this, but speaking as a student who has studied here for 3 years, I think it's great from the perspective of inclusivity or widening the opportunity to everyone without any limitations on a gender basis."
Mount Carmel's reputation has long been associated with the celebration of female friendships and bonds. The distinctive environment cultivated within its walls has allowed students to express themselves freely . Swati expounded on this, stating, "Here in Mount Carmel, we celebrate the feminine nature to know how each other feels, to be there for one another at any time. This could be because we are given a space where we enjoy just being ourselves, making us feel comfortable with the basic understanding that 'women support women' with love and so much courage."
While the decision to admit male students may inevitably prompt discussions regarding the preservation of the unique atmosphere, Swati expressed her hope for a future where all individuals are embraced equally. "I hope and believe the future accepts anyone who wants to be a part of this institution the same way, and that we build a greater community for society."
