The Ministry of Education has approved the establishment of an off-campus centre of Malla Reddy (MR) Deemed to be University in Tirupati, marking a significant expansion of the university’s academic presence beyond Telangana. The approval was granted under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 following the recommendation of the University Grants Commission
According to the official notification issued by the Department of Higher Education on July 9 2026, the new off-campus centre will be located at No. 6, Krishnapuram Village, Renigunta Mandal, Tirupati. Malla Reddy University had submitted an online application through the UGC portal seeking approval for the centre in accordance with the UGC (Institutions Deemed to be Universities) Regulations, 2023.
The proposal was examined by the UGC Standing Committee, which reviewed the institution’s presentation and supporting documents before recommending the issuance of a Letter of Intent (LoI). The Ministry of Education issued the LoI on June 1, 2026, stipulating certain conditions to be fulfilled before the establishment of the centre.
Subsequently, the university submitted a compliance report on June 2, 2026. After verification, the UGC informed the Ministry on July 3, 2026, that the Standing Committee had accepted the compliance report, paving the way for final approval.
With this approval, Malla Reddy (MR) Deemed to be University can now begin operations at the Tirupati off-campus centre. The university will, however, be required to adhere to all existing UGC regulations and the rules of other statutory councils as applicable from time
to time.
