Mega DSC-2025 Teacher Protest, Kurnool, Against YSRCP Lies
Around 4,000 teachers, brought in through the recruitment process of Mega DSC-2025 in Andhra Pradesh, protested against supposed false statements concerning their appointments that the government has been campaigning in Kurnool on August 8. Teachers from the former Kurnool, Kadapa, and Anantapur districts participated in the “Teachers’ Self-Respect Rally” and marched to the Zilla Parishad office after gathering at Konda Reddy Buruju. The protest roused the controversial Mega DSC Recruitment, igniting the recruitment process against the backdrop of disputes that have been taking place among the ruling political alliance and the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).
What the Teachers Said
Protesters claim that the appointments have been provided as a result of the recruitment process, and not by political interference, an assertion that is totally unfounded. They claimed that government teaching jobs have been acquired after years of preparation through the competitive exams. The statement, issued to the PTI, claimed that the appointments have been provided through the written exam, selection by merit, and checking of certificates, and they rejected claims regarding the irregularities in the appointment or providing of the jobs through political patronage.
The primary claim of the teachers was that those who have acquired government teaching jobs after qualifying for the competitive exams and have validated their claims by checking certificates should not have their careers questioned, as claimed by the political leaders, without any proof.
Mega DSC Recruitment: 15,000+ Teaching Posts Filled
The Mega DSC-2025 recruitment drive successfully filled over 15,000 government teaching positions. Recruitments have been a source of political debate, with complaints regarding several facets of the recruitment process being reported.
Teachers at the rally in Kurnool expressed that recruitment helped many of their colleagues attain government jobs after a long period of waiting. Bhargavi, a recruit from the Chittoor district, who was appointed through the sports quota, shared that her family was relieved and happy after her appointment. Another recruit, Ravi Naik, supported Bhargavi and shared that the recruits were appointed based on merit and their performance in the examination.
Why Is the YSRCP Against Mega DSC-2025?
The YSRCP is strongly against the recruitment process. YSRCP MLC L. Appi Reddy has called for a CBI inquiry to look into the alleged changes to the sports quota, problems with the merit lists, and the sudden transfers of the recruitment-related officials, and to look into other concerns.
YSRCP Senior Leader Sake Sailajanath claimed that there are problems at different levels in the appointment process, including the sports quota, merit list generation, and even question paper preparation. The party has demanded that all of the concerns should be investigated before the next DSC recruitment.
The YSRCP has announced its intention to conduct a protest in all 175 Assembly constituencies to mobilize students and the unemployed along with other civic societies.
Response of the Government to Allegations from DSC
The Andhra Pradesh School Education Department previously dismissed the allegations related to the Mega DSC-2025. The Department stated that the recruitment of 15,941 teachers was fully transparent and set within the framework of laws and prevailing recruitment procedures.
In a statement issued in May, the Department explained that the selection process included technology-based systems, accurate reservation rosters, and digital security alongside strong grievance redressal mechanisms and multi-tiered verification at the district level. The officials mentioned that recruitments will be defended legally against those who are spreading false information regarding the recruitments.
This approach, while defending the process, is at the center of the situation now. Teachers, who got the appointment, say that their teaching careers are undermined by politically motivated allegations, while the opposing politically motivated groups are calling for a neutral process to verify the allegations.
What Happens Next?
With the Kurnool march, the Mega DSC 2025 issue is not going to lose traction. The YSRCP has stated that they will continue to address the issue in both the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Legislative Council. The teacher protests have aggravated the situation politically and disrupted the lives of people who are dependent on the Mega DSC-2025 appointments.
