New Delhi: Maitreyi College, University of Delhi, organised a two-day National Career Counselling Workshop on September 22 and 23 under the theme “Youth First: Empowering Minds, Shaping Careers.” The workshop was organised by Horizon, the college Placement Cell, in collaboration with ICSSR-NRC and sponsored by Punjab National Bank (PNB). The programme brought together students, academicians and industry professionals to deliberate on career planning, employability, management, entrepreneurship and skills required to navigate an evolving employment landscape. The workshop aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional exposure while helping students make informed career choices. The inaugural session featured D.D. Goyal, Executive Advisor (Finance) and former Executive Director (Finance), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., as Guest of Honour.
He spoke about perseverance, experience and self-belief. Dr. Rishi Mohan Bhatnagar, Chairman, Futured Innovations Studio, the Chief Guest, highlighted the importance of research, innovation and emerging career opportunities. Prof. Haritma Chopra, Principal, Maitreyi College, stressed the importance of career-oriented learning and informed decision-making. Dr. Shweta Tripathi, National Workshop Convenor, introduced the theme, while Mr. Ginmun Lal, Convenor, Placement Cell, proposed the vote of thanks.
The first technical session, “Management as a Career: Opportunities for Arts, Commerce, and Science Graduates,” discussed MBA pathways, placements, artificial intelligence, finance and entrepreneurship. Prof. Arvind Kumar of JNU's ABVSME moderated the session, which featured Sr. Prof. Amitabh Gupta, Head, Department of Finance and Business Economics, University of Delhi, and Saurabh Misra, Co-Founder and Director, Knowlens Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Speakers encouraged students to gain practical exposure through internships, mentorship, start-up engagement and continuous learning.
The second session, “Corporate Readiness: Personal Branding and Networking for Career Success Across Disciplines,” focused on professional networking, authentic personal branding, communication and career development. The session was moderated by Joginder Ralhan, Visiting Faculty, IRMA, and featured Sr. Prof. A.K. Singh, Senior Professor and former Head and Dean, Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, and Prof. Vikas Dhawan, Director General, IIMT Group of Colleges, Greater Noida. The speakers highlighted the importance of ethical CVs, LinkedIn presence and active participation in college activities.
The second day featured sessions on “Career Transitions & Advancement Strategies” and “Entrepreneurial Mindset – For Career Growth.” Speakers discussed communication and analytical skills, continuous skill development, identifying individual interests, calculated risk-taking, problem-solving and learning from failure. The entrepreneurial session featured Rahul Pandey, CEO, Pulpy Dive; Dr. Abhishek Tandon, Joint CEO, Udhmodya Foundation and Associate Professor, University of Delhi; and Rajesh Bhowmick, Zonal Manager (CGM), Punjab National Bank. The valedictory session was attended by Dr. Sundeep Dhawan, Managing Director, Vikas Lifecare Ltd., as Chief Guest. He emphasised the relevance of research in everyday life and discussed ways to strengthen the Indian education system.
Prof. Haritma Chopra and Prof. Jyoti Singh, Vice Principal, encouraged students to remain committed to their career aspirations. The workshop received more than 400 registrations from across the University of Delhi, with participation from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi and other universities and colleges in the Delhi-NCR region. Certificates of Excellence were presented to students for active participation and engagement. Faculty members, including Dr. Rinku Kumar, Prof. Ramesh Kumari, Dr. Sandeepa Singh, Dr. Mansi Dhingra, Dr. Arun Kumar, Dr. Monu Kumar and Dr. Neha, supported the programme.The Placement Cell organising team, led by President Dia Bajaj and Vice Presidents Priyanshi Rathee and Siddhi Patidar, played a key role in coordinating the two-day event.
