Bhopal, July 29: On the occasion of Guru Purnima, the Madhya Pradesh government highlighted its Sandipani Schools initiative as a model for value-based and holistic education inspired by India’s ancient Guru-Shishya tradition. The initiative aims to combine modern education with Indian knowledge systems while promoting character building, discipline and cultural values.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said the Sandipani Schools reflect the spirit of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, focusing on quality education on Indian traditions. He directed that all pending Sandipani Schools across the state be inaugurated before Guru Purnima and announced that the day would be observed as ‘Maharishi Sandipani Shraddha Parv’.
As a part of the celebrations, schools and educational institutions organised Guru Pujan, cultural programmes and activities highlighting the life and teachings of Maharishi Sandipani, revered in Indian tradition as the guru of Lord Krishna. The government also plans to distribute educational material on Maharishi Sandipani’s contributions to India’s ancient Gurukul system among students.
The Sandipani Schools initiative seeks to strengthen students’ academic learning along moral values, leadership and respect for teachers. Officials said the programme is designed to create an education system that balances contemporary learning with India’s cultural and intellectual heritage, in line with the broader objectives of NEP 2020.
