The Sporting Olympiad Khelotsav '26, organised by Hansraj College, New Delhi, draws college students to participate in sporting and physical activities to promote fitness and enunciate the importance of mental fitness, team spirit and sporting conduct on Wednesday, August 24. Sport as an activity has the potential to channel the creative energy of young people to manage stress and build self-discipline as well as construct resilience.
The Sporting Olympiad 2026 at Hansraj College pays homage to Dhyan Chand
Principal Professor Dr Rama, as the guest of honour, presided over the inaugural ceremony. The participants paid tribute to Major Dhyan Chand. This was done to link the sporting event and Padma Bhushan awardee Dhyan Chand’s tribute with the day’s discipline and Sports spirit.
In her address, Professor Dr Rama said maintaining physical and mental health is imperative while studying. She encouraged students to maintain physical fitness by regular involvement in sports activities and avoiding social maladies like addiction and others. She explained the need to introduce sports and physical activities to help youth manage stress and increase resilience.
Hansraj College Subs SGTB Khalsa By 3-1 In First Game Of Khelotsav ’26
The hockey exhibition game between Hansraj College and SGTB Khalsa College was the first competition of Khelotsav ’26, and Hansraj College won it by 3-1.Hansraj College put up a spirited display of sporting talent and began scoring for the event.
The score indicates a winner of the game, but beyond the score, Khelotsav ’26 aims to push students to play sports and experience the benefits of sports in their campus life.
Planking, Push-Ups and Tug of War Among Activities
After the exhibition hockey game, the rest of the activities in Khelotsav ’26 were set to be a variety of games like planking, push- ups, and tug of war. These games offer competitors a chance to play based on their skill and interest levels, while building their strengths and teamwork spirit.
The games involving a high degree of strength and a high degree of coordination are meant to encourage participation even among those who are not part of their sports teams.
Sporting Activities As A Way To Ensure Student Well-Being
Khelotsav ’26 is looking to incorporate sporting activities as a way to maintain student well-being. For students who are busy with studies, sporting activities provide a routine for their day with a useful activity, goal, and time commitment. Sports activities do not have to be scored for medals and wins.
Sports participation will build discipline and other skills such as confidence, teamwork, positive attitude, and effective coping.
Department of Physical Education and Sports Society Coordinate Event
The Department of Physical Education and the Sports Society of Hansraj College organised Khelotsav ’26. The college aims to develop and sustain a strong sporting culture to generate confident and socially responsible young people with this event.
To achieve this aim, organising an exhibition hockey match along with other individual and team events gives many options for the participants to choose from.
Final Thoughts
Khelotsav ’26 does not promote the message that every single person in the college should become a competitive athlete. It emphasises that opportunities must be provided to every person to move, compete and work together.
The day's most straightforward scoreline may have been the 3-1 victory in the hockey match, but the main goal is more subtle. It is to inspire all college members to adopt more activity into their daily life, similar to choices that promote wellness and teamwork. At Hansraj College, sport is combined with mental well-being and an addiction-free youth, and Khelotsav ’26 focuses more on the healthy development of students than on winning.
