Karnataka: Heavy showers lead to schools, and colleges being shut

Karnataka: The highways were flooded and many schools and colleges in the state declared a holiday as heavy showers continued to pour down in Karnataka. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned about the incessant rainfall for the next four days in the state. Belagavi, Koppal, Gadag, Haveri, Dharwad, Bellary, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Tumakuru, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Ramanagara districts are under yellow alert.

Bangalore city begins its first day of the week by witnessing drizzles and light showers impeding the morning rush in the city. Coastal districts like Dakshin Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi are expected to receive heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning.

With the heavy rainfall, holidays have been declared for schools and colleges bordering the Chamarajanagar district. Heavy rainfalls have disturbed normal life in Mysore and Mandya districts.

Due to the heavy downpour, there has been an obstruction in the vehicular movement in the Mysuru-Bengaluru highway and this issue has been brought to the Union Minister for Highway’s notice over Twitter by highlighting the intensity of the situation.

Five persons have died in rain-related tragedies in Mysuru, Koppal, Bellary districts. Thousands of agricultural lands have come under water in the state. In several places, the Lord Ganesh idols made for the upcoming festival were found to be destroyed by the rains.
