Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has introduced a draft policy to address digital addiction among students, as concerns over excessive screen use continue to rise.
The policy has been prepared with support from NIMHANS and focuses on promoting healthier digital habits among schoolchildren.
It highlights that many students are facing issues like poor sleep, stress and reduced academic performance due to too much screen time.
To deal with this, schools will include digital awareness, mental health education and cyber safety in their curriculum.
One of the key suggestions is to limit recreational screen time to about one hour per day. Schools may also introduce rules to control mobile usage.
Teachers will be trained to identify early signs of addiction, and committees will be formed to monitor the situation in schools.
Parents are also expected to support this effort by encouraging device-free time at home and promoting outdoor activities.
The policy also encourages sports and other offline activities to help students maintain balance. It has been released for public feedback before final approval.
