Karnataka: An association of private unaided schools wrote to the prime minister on August 26 that the Karnataka Government was allegedly demanding them bribes for various approvals.

Finally, BC Nagesh the education minister has ordered a thorough investigation into serious corruption allegations levelled against school education department officials by Lokesh Talikatte, president of the Registered Unaided Private School Association (RUPSA) Karnataka. BC Nagesh wrote to the commissioner of the department of public instruction and demanded an inquiry. Meanwhile Talikatte has been asked to present before the department of public instruction on Thursday to present the paperwork and supporting materials for the corruption allegations against school administrators.

RUPSA had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging corruption in the Karnataka Education Department and requesting that BC Nagesh had to be held accountable. But Nagesh dismissed all these allegations in the media stressing that there was a recent hike in the baseless accusations towards the Karnataka state government. Later he even questioned RUPSA as to why they hadn’t filed any complaints with the assigned authorities.

Later, Lokesh shared a sample of the appeal they had made to the department earlier which was about the harassment faced by the school authorities by BEO and DDPI officials.

RUPSA wrote to the Prime Minister alleging that many government officials sought a 20% cut of the reimbursement funds intended for schools under Right to Education (RTE) Act. RUPSA also claimed that education officials bribed up to 30%-40% for a variety of approvals.
