K J Somaiya College of Physiotherapy and Dignity Foundation Champion Healthy Ageing on World PT Day 2025

Bank of Baroda–sponsored initiative empowers 200+ senior citizens with physiotherapy, fall prevention, and wellness support

Mumbai,  : Marking World Physiotherapy Day on September 8, K J Somaiya College of Physiotherapy partnered with Dignity Foundation, an NGO dedicated to elderly welfare, to promote this year’s theme — Healthy Ageing: Prevention of Falls and Frailty.

Over five days (8th–12th September), faculty and students conducted physiotherapy assessments, fall-risk evaluations, and personalized exercise sessions for seniors at Day Care and Chai Masti Centres in Jogeshwari, Chembur, Dadar, Mahalaxmi, and Mahim. A Dignity Foundation Mobile Van further extended free physiotherapy services to Chunabhatti, ensuring care reached elderly with limited access.

More than 200 senior citizens benefitted, gaining practical lifestyle tips and tailored physiotherapy guidance to improve mobility, safety, and independence. The Student Council also prepared an informative booklet on fall prevention and healthy ageing, distributed to all participants.

Dr. Shweta Manwadkar, Principal of K J Somaiya College of Physiotherapy, emphasized, “Preventing falls and promoting healthy ageing are key challenges for India’s elderly. This collaboration showcases how physiotherapy can enhance independence and quality of life.”

Echoing this vision, Mr. Javed Sheikh, CEO of Dignity Foundation, added, “Together, we are empowering seniors with mobility, wellbeing, and confidence, while spreading awareness on preventive health in the community.”
