New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has announced the establishment of three new centres dedicated to Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain studies. This initiative aims to further the vision of Vikasit Bharat by integrating Indian knowledge systems, as per an official notification.
These centres will be part of the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies at JNU. A social media post on X highlighted this development, stating, "This will take us on the path of integrating tradition with modernity, continuity with change, realm with region, and myth with reality."
The decision was approved by the JNU Executive Council during a meeting on May 29. A special committee had been formed to explore and recommend ways to implement the National Education Policy (2020) and integrate the Indian Knowledge System at the university.
The notification, dated July 9 and released on Friday, confirmed the Executive Council's approval of the committee's recommendations, which include the establishment of these new centres within the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies.
This move follows a similar initiative by Delhi University (DU) last year, which established a Centre for Hindu Studies offering a master's degree and planning to introduce undergraduate courses. DU also has a department for Buddhist Studies and recently received government approval to establish a Centre for Advanced Studies in Buddhism, with an estimated budget of Rs 35 crore.
