New Delhi, March 9 : The Department of Management Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, has been entrusted with a prestigious multidisciplinary research project by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) under its 2nd Call for Multi-disciplinary Studies on Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) of India (2025–26). The project has received approval following a rigorous competitive national evaluation process, marking a significant academic achievement for the Department.
The research project is led by Dr. Taufeeque Ahmad Siddiqui, Associate Professor, Department of Management Studies. Another investigator from the Department is Dr. Md. Obaidul Ola, Assistant Professor. Prof. Ravindra Ramesh Patil, Head of the Department, Department of Social Work, is also an investigator on the project.
With an approved budget of ₹16 lakh, the approved project, titled “Integrating Indigenous Knowledge, Forest Rights, and Digital Innovation for Sustainable Tribal Development: A Study of the Asur Community of Jharkhand,” will be anchored at the Department of Management Studies. The project aims to examine sustainable development pathways for the Asur tribe, one of India’s Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups. The study will adopt a multidisciplinary framework to explore how indigenous knowledge systems, forest rights implementation, and digital inclusion initiatives can collectively strengthen livelihood resilience, community entrepreneurship, and socio-economic empowerment within tribal communities.
The allocation of this project to the Department of Management Studies highlights the expanding scope of management research beyond conventional business domains toward inclusive development, social innovation, and public policy engagement. By situating the project within a management studies context, the research will emphasize governance mechanisms, institutional effectiveness, community entrepreneurship, and technology-enabled development strategies relevant to marginalized populations.
