JMI VC receives NCC Band Instruments in an official ceremony

This newly acquired Pipe Band instruments have enhanced the capacity of the existing Band Troop of NCC, JMI.

The official ceremony for handing over of Band instruments to National Cadet Corps, Jamia Millia Islamia was held on May 23, 2023 in the Administrative Block premises of JMI.

 The Additional Director General NCC, Delhi Directorate, Maj Gen S P Vishwasrao, SM** handed over the Band instruments to hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar, Colonel Commandant, National Cadet Corps, Jamia Millia Islamia. The Band instruments given to NCC, JMI, comprised of Bagpipes, Pipe chanter reeds, practice chanters, brass drums, tenor drums, side drums, brass drum stand and several other instruments associated with the Pipe Band. This newly acquired Pipe Band instruments have enhanced the capacity of the existing Band Troop of NCC, JMI.

 The Hony. Coordinator NCC, Prof. Tasneem Meenai and the Associate NCC Officers and Care Taker Officers of NCC, JMI welcomed Prof. Najma Akhtar, hon’ble Vice Chancellor on her arrival. The NCC cadets gave the ceremonial welcome to the hon’ble Vice Chancellor. This was followed by a Quarter Guard to the Additional Director General NCC, Delhi Directorate, Maj Gen S P Vishwasrao, SM**

 The ceremony to hand over band instruments was attended by Group Captain Kumar Desh Deepak, Group Commander, HQ Group ‘C’ (NCC) Delhi Directorate, Col Abdul Basit A Hangal, Commanding Officer of 4 DBN and Capt (IN) Nalin K. Mishra, the Commanding Officer of 2 Delhi Naval Unit, NCC. The ceremony was also attended by the Deans of various faculties as well as the Dean, Students’ Welfare and other officials of the university.

 Prof. Najma Akhtar thanked Maj Gen SP Vishwasrao SM ** for giving  immense support to the National Cadet Corps in Jamia Millia Islamia and expressed her hope that the Band instruments will enhance the capacity of our NCC cadets and that other talented students of the University would also gain from the opportunity to learn and play the band on ceremonial occasions in the University and in important national events. The ADG NCC Delhi Dte. also paid a visit to the NCC parade ground and was shown a demonstration of rock climbing by NCC cadets. He, along with the Group Commander and the Commanding Officers, the Hony. Coordinator NCC and other NCC officers also inspected the University Firing Range and promised support in developing the necessary infrastructure to enhance the participation of Jamia students in NCC activities.

 The Associate NCC officers of Jamia - Lt. Rajneesh Kumar, II/O Amtul Saba, III/O Hayat Alam and Care Taker Officers - Dr. Arif Mohammad, Dr. Amit Kumar and Dr. Ataur Rahman, former senior NCC cadets, NCC office staff, and NCC cadets from the Army and Navy, Senior and Junior Division / Wing, participated very enthusiastically to make the programme successful.
