JMI team secures 2nd Best Memorial Award in 'Checkmate 2025' National Moot Court Competition

The team comprising Om Gupta, Maitreyee Mishra, and Tanvi, achieved the position of quarter-Finalists and received a trophy along with a cheque of Rs. 9,000/- from Hon’ble Mr. Justice R.K. Garg, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court

New Delhi. : Jamia Millia Islamia's (JMI) team from the Faculty of Law has secured the 2nd Best Memorial Award at the 14th edition of the coveted “Checkmate 2025” - National Moot Court Competition, organized by the Army Institute of Law, Mohali.  The team comprising Om Gupta, Maitreyee Mishra, and Tanvi, achieved the position of quarter-Finalists and received a trophy along with a cheque of Rs. 9,000/- from Hon’ble Mr. Justice R.K. Garg, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court, in the presence of Advocates Deepa Singh and Gautam Dutt from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The two-day moot court competition held on 14-15 February, 2025, witnessed participation from teams from across the country, with the top 16 teams qualifying for the Oral Rounds after the Memorial Evaluation Round. The moot problem dealt with the interplay of Criminal Law and Technology, drawing from the provisions of the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023; Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023.

Prof. Ghulam Yazdani, Dean of the Faculty of Law, congratulated the team members stating,  “This outstanding accomplishment is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and legal acumen, especially as first-year students. I extend our heartfelt congratulations to the team and wish them continued success in their future mooting endeavors.”
