JMI starts two week Refresher Course in Disaster Management (Interdisciplinary)

:- The Chief Guest of the inaugural function was Prof. V.K. Malhotra, Member Secretary, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR)

 

New Delhi: The UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), and the Department of Geography of the university jointly started the 4th Two-Week Refresher Course (online) in Disaster Management (Interdisciplinary) from July 22 to August 4, 2022 for training and skill building of  young faculty members from different universities and colleges across India.

The Chief Guest of the inaugural function was Prof. V.K. Malhotra, Member Secretary, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi congratulated the organizers on the important refresher program. The theme of the program is ‘Risk, Vulnerability, and Mitigation of Disaster’. He threw light on the importance of disaster management in present times.

The Guest of Honor of the Inaugural Function, Prof. Seemi Farhat Basir, Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences, JMI appreciated and discussed the fundamental aspects of Disaster Management and the need for the management of the same.

Prof V.K. Sharma, Senior Professor, Disaster Management/Consultant at Indian Institute of Public Administration, and Vice Chairman, Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority, Govt. of Sikkim was also the Guest of Honor. He delivered the keynote address on the importance of policy making and creating awareness among the people regarding disaster risk reduction.

Prof. Anisur Rahman, Director, UGC-HRDC, JMI welcomed all the distinguished delegates and participants of the Refresher Course. Prof. Rahman underscored the inspiring leadership and support of JMI Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Najma Akhtar, that played an instrumental role in achieving academic and research excellence over the years.

Dr. Taruna Bansal, one of the Course Coordinator, outlined the design of the course and highlighted the theme and sub-themes of the Refresher Course.

Prof. Haroon Sajjad Head, Department of Geography, JMI gave the Chair remarks and emphasized the need for addressing the issue of awareness for disaster management among young academicians and scholars.
