JMI’s Faculty of Dentistry conducts 4th IOS Innovation Conclave & Crafting Research Symposium

''Craft and Propel Ideas to Reality'' Theme Inspires Innovation and Collaboration

New Delhi:The Department of Orthodontics and dentofacial Orthopaedics, Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) conducted an Indian Orthodontic Society calendar event  4th IOS Innovation Conclave and Crafting Research Symposium on August 8th -9th, 2024

Themed as “Craft and Propel Ideas to reality” this two-day rich program featured didactic lectures on emerging trends, gaps in current practices, AI advancements, prototype design, intellectual property rights, and marketing solutions. It also included a symposium on Intellectual property rights followed by workshop on copyright and patent filing offering invaluable practical experience, culminating in a panel discussion to help you chart a course for turning your innovative ideas into reality.

The inauguration day on 9th August was graced by esteemed presence of by Offg. Vice Chancellor, JMI, Professor Mohammad Shakeel as Chief Guest, presided over by President, Indian Orthodontic Society, Prof (Dr) Jayesh Rahalkar, Honorary Secretary, IOS, Prof (Dr) Sanjay Labh and Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, JMI. The ceremony began with Tilawat-e-Quran followed by adorn the jewels of office by the Secretary, IOS to the President IOS. The Organizing Chairperson, Prof (Dr) Priyanka Kapoor delivered a cordial welcome to the gathering, followed by Dean’s address by Prof (Dr) Keya Sircar, extending warm greetings to all present. Honorary Secretary, IOS introduced the theme of the conclave and declared the scientific session open. In his presidential address, President, IOS highlighted the support by IOS in promoting innovation and research through the IOS annual research grants.

Prof. Mohammad Shakeel, in his inaugural address, appreciated the efforts by the F/o Dentistry in research, community service and accolades contributing to the rankings of the University. The results of the competitive presentations by delegates were declared by the scientific convenor Dr Tabassum. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Organizing Secretary Prof (Dr) Harneet Kaur followed by the rendition of the Indian National Anthem.

The programme was planned on online mode on Day 1 included with a lecture by Prof (Dr) O.P. Kharbanda on "From Ideas to Reality - A Roadmap." The lecture sessions were conducted by speakers all over India including Prof (Dr) Suryakant Das, Prof (Dr) Digant Thakkar, Prof (Dr) Alka Banker, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Patel and one international speaker named Prof (Dr) Md. Khursheed Alam on various topics, including the power of AI, emerging trends in orthodontic innovations, and industrial opportunities for orthodontists. Online paper and poster presentation session was themed Orthodontic Shark Tank that showcased innovative studies on orthodontic treatment outcomes, patient satisfaction, and new materials.

Day 2 (Hybrid mode) began with a keynote lecture by President Elect IOS, Prof (Dr) Puneet Batra on "Innovations in Academic and Translational Research.". The second session was a symposium “Intellectual property rights” by experts of the field, Prof (Dr)Mini Thomas, Dean F/o engineering, Dr Umesh Dutta from Manav Rachna Innovation and Incubation Centre, and Prof Rihan K. Suri Sir, Director, Centre of innovation and entrepreneurship, JMI. The next session was a panel discussion "Start-ups in the Orthodontic Market" with Hon Secretary IOS, Prof (Dr) Sanjay Labh, Prof (Dr) Elbe Peter (Govt Dental college, Thissur, Kerala) Dr Dharmadeep (Andhra Pradesh) and Dr Nitika Monga (Scientist E, ICMR, New Delhi) sharing their experiences and insights into the ethical and funding challenges in startup buinesses. The symposium concluded with a workshop on "Registering and Enforcing Intellectual Property Rights: Copyright and Patents" by the attorneys Mr Muzzamil Hussain and Ms Somdutta Chakraborty moderated by experts in topic Prof (Dr) Aman Chowdhry and Prof (Dr) Vivek Aggarwal from F/o Dentistry, JMI.

The 4th IOS Innovation Conclave and Research Symposium was a resounding success, providing a platform for knowledge sharing, innovation, and collaboration. The event reinforced the importance of staying updated with the latest advancements in orthodontics and encouraged participants to embrace innovation in their practice.
