JMI organizes Workshop on Anti Plagiarism Softwares and E Resources

The Department of Economics and Dr Zakir Hussain Central Library, Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) organised a workshop on anti- plagiarism softwares and e-resources on 29th September, 2022. The event was a part of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the Department of Economics, JMI.

 

New Delhi. : The Department of Economics and Dr Zakir Hussain Central Library, Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI)  organised a workshop on anti- plagiarism softwares and e-resources on 29th September, 2022. The event was a part of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the Department of Economics, JMI.

Prof. Ashraf Illiyan welcomed all the participants and resource persons. Dr. Tarik Ashraf (Chief Librarian), Johan Mir (Information Scientist) and Sandeep (Assistant Librarian) were the key resources persons in the workshop. Prof. Illiyan emphasised the importance and necessity of learning anti plagiarism softwares as it has become the mandatory requirement for thesis submission and research publication in reputed journals.

Prof. Tarik Ashraf made an interesting presentation on academic integrity and ethics which highlighted the need for zero tolerance towards plagiarism. Otherwise it may lead to disastrous consequences, he warned while showcasing recent cases of plagiarisms in India.

Johan Mir has made a detailed presentation on the importance of two prominent anti plagiarism softwares namely URKUND (Now known as ORIGINAL) and ithenticate (Turnitin). He demonstrated to the participants how different documents can be checked for plagiarism/ similarity and what are various filters which can be applied for reducing similarity percentages. Further, he also showed the process of analysing plagiarism/similarity report and its uses in research.  At the end of the session various e- resources available in Jamia Library were also introduced to the participants.

More than 80 faculty members and research scholars from different disciplines and departments such as Geography, Dentistry, Education, International Studies, Tourism, Bio Science, Biophysics, Applied Science and Humanities, Economics and Commerce have enthusiastically participated in the workshop.
