New Delhi: Department of Economics, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized a webinar on April 5, 2022. Theme of the webinar was, “Russia-Ukraine crisis and its impact on Indian Economy”. Speaker of the webinar was Prof. Arun Kumar, Malcom Adiseshiah Chair Professor, at the Institute of Social Sciences, New Delhi and Former Professor at CESP, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

Prof. Arun Kumar introduced the topic with the historical narratives of the nations and analyzed the economic impacts of the present conflict with special reference to the short term, medium term and long term of economic engagements. He also discussed the economic impacts in this time on Russia, other nations and with particular reference to India. He urged the immediate possible solutions to stop the war because the human cost of war is very high. Since the world is more globalized today, the impacts are likely to have more ripples than that of previous editions of world wars. Since Russia is a comparatively larger economy and is a leading supplier of oil, gas, coal and other critical elements, the immediate sanctions imposed by world nations may be difficult for them without finding a substitute.

The lecture was followed by a Question and Answer session and was a fruitful discussion. More than 200 students, faculty and researchers enthusiastically participated in the event.
