New Delhi :- The Department of Geography, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized orientation programme for welcoming its newly admitted student on 17th August, 2023. Prof. Haroon Sajjad while welcoming the students applauded the achievements of Jamia Millia Islamia under the dynamic leadership of the JMI Vice Chancellor, Prof. Najma Akhtar. He motivated the students and made the students aware of the institution for imparting valuable education. “It is your talent and success that made you deserve for being the student of NIRF third ranked institution in India. Now it is your duty to make yourself worthy of getting excellent education and wonderful experience here. Jamia Millia Islamia is like your home where all members live together with a bond of love. You are here to cherish the dreams of your parents and fulfil your aim. Jamia Millia Islamia is peaceful, academic and ragging free campus which allows to make you successful and responsible citizen, he said”.
Prof. Atiqur Rahman, the Chief Proctor and chief guest with his enlightening words, shed light on the glorious history of Jamia Millia Islamia and underlined the importance of the learning process. He elucidated the essence of Geography, its allure, and significance. Prof. Rahman also navigated the students through competitive exams, underscoring the UGC and IPC's stern stance against ragging and highlighted the available grievance mechanisms and helplines. Earlier the Department of Geography organized activities during Anti-ragging week (12-18 August, 2023) for making the students aware of anti-ragging policy. The winners of the Logo Designing, Slogan Writing, Poster Creation, and Essay Writing competitions on the anti-ragging theme were felicitated with prize and certificate on the occasion.
Prof. Mary Tahir's eloquent speech offered a profound welcome to the students, inspiring them to remain driven in their pursuits. Her words resonated deeply, assuring students of a nurturing environment. Highlighting the institution's prestige, Prof. Lubna Siddiqui proudly drew attention to the accolades achieved by the Department of Geography. Emphasizing a balance between leisure and academia, Dr. Asif shared his wisdom on relishing the university experience while remaining committed to learning. Dr. Ghazal Salahuddin highlighted the abundant resources of the university, particularly the enriched library. She advised the students to take full advantage of the resources and experienced teachers in making their successful career. Time management and maintaining the university's esteemed decorum were the focal points of Dr. Ismail Haque's address. Dr. Hasan Raja Naqvi, Subject advisor proposed the vote of thanks. He acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the faculty members, students, and each participant in making the anti-ragging day celebration a resounding success.
