JMI organizes one-week workshop on ‘Technological Advancements in Digital Healthcare’

 

New Delhi. ; The Digital Healthcare Unit, Department of Electrical Engineering, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) conducted a week-long workshop on ‘Technological Advancements in Digital Healthcare’ from February, 1-7, 2023 under the Synergistic Training program Utilizing the Scientific and Technological Infrastructure (STUTI) Program of the Department of Science and Technology(DST), Government of India. 

STUTI is intended to build human resources and its knowledge capacity through open access S&T Infrastructure across the country. The scheme provides a hands-on training program and use of state-of-the-art equipment keeping main focus on ensuring transparent access to Sciences & Technological facilities. The Digital Healthcare Unit of Department of Electrical Engineering, JMI has received the grant from DST, Govt. of India through Jamia Hamdard as PMU.

 “The main objective of the workshop was to understand the foundation of Digital Healthcare focusing on neurotechnologies, frontiers of neuroengineering, IoT, and embedded technologies for biomedical applications” said Prof. Munna Khan Head, Department of Electrical Engineering and Chairman of the workshop. He also informed that more than 50 faculty members and research scholars from leading institutions across the country participated in the workshop.  

A total of 19 speakers from IIT Delhi, AIIMS, CSIR, DRDO, AMU and NIT delivered expert talks and covered almost all aspects of Digital health and related issues. Hands-on Lab visits were also conducted during the workshop for the benefit of participants and quality research publication from the participants are expected from the knowledge they gathered from the workshop.

Prof. R. K. Sinha, Vice Chancellor, Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida was the Chief Guest of the Valedictory Function. Prof. Sinha emphasized on the commercialization of products starting from prototype development for the benefit of the common man.

Guest of Honour, Prof. Sujoy K Guha (Padma Shree) focused on the importance of the workshop and said that this journey must not stop here as more such workshops are needed. He also praised the dynamic leadership of JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar (Padma Shree).    

Guest of Honour Prof. Suhel Parvez, DST-STUTI PMU coordinator highlighted DST as the apex body which identifies an Institute that functions as a Project Management Unit (PMU). The PMU acts as a hub to further identify host institutes/ departments in the catchment areas for coordinating and imparting the training in a smooth and efficient manner. The DST recommended 13 PMU for support of the STUTI program.

Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, JMI presided over the function. In her address she appreciated the efforts made by the organizing team of the workshop and its chairman Prof. Munna Khan.

Prof. Najma Akhtar quoted Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and asserted that coming years will belong to people who have invested in digital healthcare. She also said that in this technological era, multidisciplinary research would play an important role in spreading awareness through technological means and provide solutions to the problems faced by the common man.

Prof. Mini S Thomas, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, JMI asked the participants to take maximum benefits from the workshop.
