New Delhi: An Intra-University Bilingual Elocution Competition was organized by ‘BOL: The Debating Society’ under the aegis of the office of the Dean Students Welfare (DSW), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) on the topic “Your Mother Tongue is your identity” to commemorate International Mother Language Day on February 21, 2022.

The event received an enthusiastic response from students of the university. Participants exchanged their ideas on the importance of mother tongue in shaping individual identity and the need for preserving mother tongue for empowering the nation. They expressed their views on the topic in Hindi and Urdu language.

The event commenced with the host Mr. Roshan Raj, introducing the topic of the elocution and thereby reciting the rules of the competition. The event was judged by a panel of three judges: Prof. Fauzia Nadeem, Faculty of Education, Dr. Ghulam Yazdani, Faculty of Law and Dr. Sadaf Fatima, Department of BioScience.

One of the learned jury members Dr.Gulam Yazdani, foregrounded the significance of International Mother Language Day which is celebrated every year on 21^st February.

The competition concluded with the Vote of Thanks to the DSW Prof Ayub Khan, the judges, the Convenor Dr. Sheema Aleem and Co-Convenor Dr. Asmat Jahan and the organizing team for organizing this elocution competition.

The results were announced later where in Hindi Category- Aalisha Khan (B.A. Programme) stood first, Anurag Upadhyay (B.A.LLB/Hons./Regular) stood Second and Aashana Ali (B.A. Prog.) stood third. In Urdu Category, Muhammad Faisal Khan (BSc Hons. Applied Mathematics) stood first, Md Shams Tabrez  (BA.LLB/Hons.) stood second and Maherukh Aliya (Diploma in Electrical Engineering) stood third.
