JMI organizes Faculty Development Training Programme on Disaster Risk Reduction in association with NIDM

:- The FDP will continue till August 5, 2022

 

New Delhi: The Department of Geography, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) today started a five-day Faculty Development Training Programme (FDP) on 'Disaster Risk Reduction’ in collaboration with National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi. The FDP will continue till August 5, 2022.

The inaugural function of the programme was held at FTK-CIT Hall of the university. JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Prof. Seemi Farhat Basir, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences, the distinguished guest delivered the key note address. The programme was attended by senior professors, bureaucrats, researchers and students.

The Vice Chancellor in her inaugural address appreciated the programme for being significant during present time. The disasters are happening and will continue to occur. Thus, there is urgent need to take effective steps to reduce disaster risk reduction.  She appreciated the objectives of the training programme for creating awareness, building capacity, enhancing skills, disseminating knowledge and devising effective strategies for disaster risk reduction.

Prof. Seemi Farhat Basir in her address talked about the impact of natural disasters on the life, property and environment. She deliberated on risk and vulnerability to landslide, earthquake, drought, flood and tsunami evidenced from various parts of the world.

Prof. Haroon Sajjad, Head, Department of Geography and convener talked about the awareness and devising effective mitigation strategies for disasters in the era of climate change.
