JMI organises Workshop on Research and Academic Writing in Indian Languages

Training and skill building of more than 75 young Scholars and faculty members from different Universities and Colleges across India were conducted during the workshop.

 

New Delhi. ; The Department of Educational Studies, Faculty of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) conducted a three-day Non-Residential Workshop on Research and Academic Writing in Indian Languages funded by Bhartiya Bhasha Samiti, Government of India from 22nd -24th February 2023. Training and skill building of more than 75 young Scholars and faculty members from different Universities and Colleges across India were conducted during the workshop.

The inaugural session was graced with the presidential remarks of the Dean of the Faculty and the Chair of the session Prof. Sara Begum. She emphasized that research is highly needed to reinvent itself in Indian languages.

Dr. Arshad Ikram Ahmad, Head of the Department of Educational Studies, JMI said that the Department of Educational Studies has taken the initiative in the wake of transforming the colonial character of education to the national character of education. With such an initiative he anticipated that the university would achieve newer heights in promoting research in Indian Languages.

Prof. Neera Narang from the Central Institute of Education, University of Delhi who was the Chief guest at the inaugural session said that not only research but the entire system of education throughout the globe can learn from the Indian system of education.  Prof. Arbind Kumar Jha from IGNOU deliberated upon Research Paradigm as Key-Note Speaker.

Dr. Chandan Srivastava, the Academic Coordinator of Bhartiya Bhasha Samiti was the Guest of Honour at the Inaugural Programme. He enlightened the audience with several initiatives that the Bhartiya Bhasha Samiti of the Government of India has taken to Indianize the education system. He also highlighted the support Bhartiya Bhasha Samiti, Government of India are providing to the universities towards this endeavour and making to realize the vision of NEP 2020. He said that Bhartiya Bhasha Samiti is reorienting and strengthening Language Institutions, providing stimulus to Multilingualism, Developing Language Learning Tools & Disseminating Vocabulary, Producing Books/Study Materials in Bharatiya Bhasha and so on.

Eminent speakers from across India participated as Resource Persons for the workshop. These included Prof. Saroj Yadav Former Dean Academics, NCERT, Dr. Gulfam, NCERT, Dr. Mona Sedwal, NIEPA, Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh, IGNOU, Prof. Lokanath Mishra, Mizoram University, Dr. Vimal Rarh- Delhi University, Prof. Usha Sharma, NCERT, Prof. Kumar Suresh, NIEPA, Prof. S.K. Yadav, former HoD, NCERT, Niranjan Sahae, Allahabad.

Dr. Sajjad Ahmad, Assistant Professor, Department of Educational Studies who was the coordinator of the workshop took an initiative to organize the workshop for the young learners. He presented the purpose of the workshop and emphasized that the structure of the workshop was meticulously planned incorporating different aspects concerning Research and Academic Writing in Indian Languages such as Research Paradigm, Mixed Methods in Research, Basic tenets of qualitative research, Statistical Inference, Hands-on workshop on Developing of Detailed Research Project, How to write thematic research report, Hands-on workshop on Designing and Developing MOOC course, Hands-on workshop on writing academic paper, Hands-on workshop on how to make your research publishable and Understanding the nuances of Academic Writing. He highlighted that participants from 33 universities enrolled themselves for the workshop but due to limited seats not all were accommodated. Valedictory session was graced by the chief guest six Prof. Gopal Krishna Thakur from MGAHV, Wardha.

Dr. Sajjad Ahmad, coordinator of the programme started with the Award of Eminence for the life time contribution to the field of education in order to acknowledge the contribution of the faculty to the department. The recipient of the Award were Prof. Sara Begum- Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Aejaz Masih, Prof. Anita Rastogi, Prof. Harjeet Kaur Bhatia, Prof. Naheed Zahoor, Dr. Arshad Ikram Ahmad, HoD of Educational Studies. The Chief Guest presented the award to the recipients. He also presented mementos to Imteyaz Ahmad, Ishita Chugh, and Fariha Siddiqui for their contribution to make the programme successful.
