JMI organises workshop on Referencing/Citation Tool (Mendeley)

A Workshop on Referencing/Citation tools (Mendeley) was jointly organised by the Department of Economics and Dr. Zakir Husain Library, JMI today at the Computer Lab of the Department of Economics, JMI.

 

New Delhi: A Workshop on Referencing/Citation tools (Mendeley) was jointly organised by the  Department of Economics and Dr. Zakir Husain Library, JMI today at the Computer Lab of the Department of Economics, JMI.

Professor Asheref Illiyan, Head, Department of Economics in his introductory remarks emphasised on the need for knowing and using tools such as Mendeley to be more efficiently using time for one’s own research.

Professor Nandan Nawn of the Department of Economics mentioned that this software saves a lot of time in research and reminded students that in the past everything had to be done manually which used to be very time consuming and cumbersome.

Sandeep Sharma, Assistant Librarian, Dr. Zakir Husain Library spoke on the nature and type of services that are made available for students and teachers of JMI, such as Mendeley that can facilitate research in a significant way. Johan Mohamad Mir, Information Scientist, Dr. Zakir Husain Library systematically conducted the workshop. He showed how to open an account on Mendeley, how to organise references in it, how to import references from it into MS word, how to add notes on the text of the documents on Mendeley, among others.

On the basis of responses received from the participants at the end of the workshop it can be safely stated that they were greatly benefitted by the workshop.

There was a huge participation of students from many departments (Sociology, Political Science, Geography, Economics), Centre (Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution), and across programmes (both PhD and Masters).

In his concluding remarks, Professor Nawn stated that in future the Department of Economics will make similar workshops to facilitate research. He thanked resource persons, Chief Librarian, participants and faculty members who were present during the workshop.
