JMI organises Mushirul Hasan Memorial Seminar

The theme of the seminar was ‘History of Health Consciousness in Indian Culture.’

New Delhi: Jamia Milia Islamia University(JMI) organised Mushirul Hasan Memorial Seminar on 23 February 2023. The event was organised by the Department of History & Culture of the university. The theme of the seminar was ‘History of Health Consciousness in Indian Culture.’

According to the official press release, JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar (Padma
Shri) presided over the session. The Keynote address was delivered by Prof. Devendra Sharma of State University of California USA. Prof. Zoya Hasan, wife of the Late Prof. Mushirul Hasan was also present at the session. 

Prof. Devendra Sharma emphasised the presence of physical activities and mental renunciation in Indian culture. He cited the example of Shrawan Kumar to put across his point. Prof. Heeraman Tiwari also delivered a lecture on the importance of words: spoken, written and memorized and how they impact the human mind

Heads of the Departments of History of the University of Delhi, Jawaharlal Nehru
University and Aligarh Muslim University along with historians and teachers attended the session. Many papers were presented in the seminar as well.
