JMI conducts Orientation Program ‘Prarambh’ for BDS student

Interaction with Dr Kaleem Fatima, an alumnus of Faculty of Dentistry, JMI was a major highlight of the program, as students from all the batches interacted with her to get tips on how to succeed in their academic pursuits.

New Delhi : - ‘Prarambh’, the Orientation Program of the Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) for the academic year 2023-2024 was conducted from 10th to 12th October 2023 in the Library Hall of the Faculty.  In her welcome address, Prof Keya Sircar, Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, briefed students about glorious history and of the tremendous achievements of the University under the stellar and dynamic leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Najma Akhtar (Padma Shri).

The Guest of Honour for the inaugural session, Prof Poonam Sood Loomba, NMC Convenor, Regional Centre, Medical Education Department, Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi apprised the students about the importance of Attitude, Ethics and Communication in professional practice for health care professionals. Day 2 of the orientation program commenced with the Anti Ragging workshop which was conducted in a very interactive manner by Prof Puneet Batra, Member, Dental Council of India, Principal, Manav Rachna Dental College, Faridabad. Prof Rahisuddin, Assistant Proctor effectively conveyed to students about the ‘zero tolerance for ragging; policy of the University. A Gender sensitization workshop to inculcate awareness about gender related issues was conducted on Day 3, by Prof Ushvinder Kaur Popli, Department of Social Work, JMI.

During the course of the 3-day program, faculty members from the Faculty of Dentistry briefed students about various aspects of life as a student of BDS program in JMI. They were also told about the various extra-curricular facilities, hostel system, student clubs,  etc that are available in the University and the importance of these activities for holistic growth and development. Students were highly appreciative of the information given to them regarding the Future Prospects in Dentistry and about the various research opportunities available to them as undergraduate students in Faculty of Dentistry, JMI.

The students, accompanied by faculty members, also visited several facilities in the University like AJK MCRC, Ansari Auditorium, Ansari Health Centre, Incubation centres, Faculty of Engineering, Nanotechnology centre, Zakir Hussain Library, Premchand Archives & Central Canteen.

The Orientation program was coordinated by Prof Anuradha Sharma, Prof Sazina Muzammil, and Prof Rizwana Mallick, along with enthusiastic participation of the entire Organizing team, resource persons, student volunteers, non-teaching staff and supporting staff in the Faculty of Dentistry.
