JMI celebrates National Unity Day

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) celebrated National Unity Day today to commemorate the 146th Birth Anniversary of the great freedom fighter Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Home Minister of India.

 

NewDelhi: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) celebrated National Unity Day today to commemorate the 146th Birth Anniversary of the great freedom fighter Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Home Minister of India. As part of the celebration, various departments and NSS unit of the university organised a number of programmes.

More than 100 volunteers of NSS, JMI  joined hands to form a chain to convey the message of national integration under the guidance of Dr. Abid Hussain, Assistant Professor & Program Officer NSS and Mr. Vikar Hussain Siddiqui, NSS Coordinator. An oath taking ceremony, slogan competition and poster making competition were also organised on the occasion.  All the events were highly successful as the volunteers put in a lot of effort into planning and executing them.

Students took oath that they will dedicate themselves to maintain the unity, integrity and security of the nation and will also try to spread the message among countrymen. They are taking the oath in the spirit of unity of their country which has been made possible by the vision and actions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. They also solemnly resolved to make their contribution to ensure the internal security of their country.

Holding flags and placards in their hands, students and teachers of the Department of Political Science, JMI took out a Unity March under the guidance of Prof. Muslim Khan, Head of the Department, inside the university campus to send across the message of unity and national integration.   A  photo exhibition was also organised in the department.

An exhibition titled "Sardar Patel - The Architect of Unification" curated jointly by Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA) and Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) has been digitally displayed in the Dr. Zakir Hussain Library and Munshi Premchand Archives & Literary Centre of the university.
