The Faculty of Dentistry in collaboration with Indian Society of Periodontology celebrated “National Oral Hygiene Day”

New Delhi: The Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) in collaboration with Indian Society of Periodontology celebrated “National Oral Hygiene Day” on 1st August 2024 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Late Dr G.B Shankwalkar. A lecture focused on Standard Operating Procedures on managing Gingivitis and Periodontitis Cases was delivered, providing students and interns with essential knowledge on updated practices in periodontology.

A number of engaging activities were organized, including an ‘Oral Hygiene’ themed meme competition, where students used creativity and humor to create photos and videos promoting oral hygiene awareness. An oral hygiene instructions competition was held, which encouraged students to demonstrate effective oral care.

The Dean, Prof. Keya Sircar encouraged students through prize distribution to the winners. Faculty members and interns played a significant role in patient education and motivation, offering personalized oral hygiene advice to patients visiting the OPD and emphasizing the importance of good oral health practices. To further promote oral hygiene, free samples of toothpastes, toothbrushes, mouthwashes, and interdental aids were distributed to patients, which were well-received and appreciated.

The event received positive feedback from patients, faculty, interns, and students, successfully highlighting the importance of oral hygiene for overall health and well-being. The Faculty of Dentistry looks forward to continuing this annual tradition of promoting oral health awareness and education through such engaging and informative events.
