JMI celebrates Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas

The Department of Sociology, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) celebrated Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas on 15th November 2022 in the Seminar Room of the Department.

 

New Delhi: The Department of Sociology, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) celebrated Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas on 15th November 2022 in the Seminar Room of the Department. The event was organized by the Subject Association and involved a series of presentations on tribal heroes from different regions of India. The presentations made by students highlighted the remarkable contributions of tribal heroes in the freedom struggle as well as in various cultural areas.

Some of the notable figures whose lives and contributions were discussed are: Birsa Munda, Thalakkal Chanthu and Tilka Manjhi, among others. The presenters were Ankush Pal (B.A., 3rd semester), Adham and Quayyam (B.A., 1 st semester) from the Department.

The event culminated with a vote of thanks by the Head of Department, Prof. Manisha T. Pandey who congratulated the Subject Association for their enthusiasm in the celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas.

Dr. K.R. Narayanan Centre for Dalit and Minorities Studies, JMI organised an online seminar by Prof Virginius Xaxa to commemorate Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas 15 November 2022. Professor Xaxa spoke on the theme titled `Birsa Munda, Tribes and Self-Rule'. He discussed the contributions of Birsa Munda to India's free movement against British rule and the important role he played for strengthening tribal identity.
