JMI celebrates International Day of the Girl Child

The purpose of the competition was to create awareness about the hardships faced by a girl child. The theme for the competition was “OUR TIME IS NOW-OUR RIGHTS, OUR FUTURE”.

 

New Delhi. :The subject association of the Centre for Early Childhood Development & Research (CECDR), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) celebrated International Day of the Girl Child by organising a poster and slogan making competition on October 11, 2022. The purpose of the competition was to create awareness about the hardships faced by a girl child. The theme for the competition was “OUR TIME IS NOW-OUR RIGHTS, OUR FUTURE”. Students from diverse faculties and departments of the university participated in the competition. Every year, the International Day of Girl Child is celebrated on October 11 with the aim of empowering girls and amplifying their collective voice across the globe. 

 

Some prominent attendees in the program  were Prof. Archana Dassi (Professor In-charge), Dr. Sufia Azmat (Student Advisor). The event was also attended by different position bearers of the Subject Association of the CECDR, JMI.  The competition was judged by Prof. Anubha Rajesh and Dr. Seema Naaz. 

 

The coveted winners of the competition were- Erem Fatima – M.A (Education) Department of Education (Winner) Bushra Aziz – M.A.(ECD)Centre for Early Childhood Development & Research (Runner-up) Nimra Khan – M.A.(ECD)Centre for Early Childhood Development & Research (2nd Runner-up) Hajrah and Rabia Hasan – Centre for Early Childhood Development & Research (Consolation Prize Winners). 

 

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) organizes events on this occasion . It also highlights the dire need for equal opportunities and level playing fields for girls, so that they can perform just as well — if not better — than the boys. On this day, the United Nations, other organizations, support groups and people across the world renew their stand against violence, child marriage, rape, poor health and barriers in education for girls.

 

In the last 10 years, there has been increased attention on issues that matter to girls amongst government policy makers and general public and more opportunities to girls to have their voices heard on the global stage. Yet, investment in girls rights remain limited and girls continue to confront a lot of challenges for fulfilling their potential.
