JMI celebrates 8th International Day of Yoga on “Yoga for Humanity” theme

:- A spiritually invigorating Yoga session was practiced by NCC cadets, NSS volunteers and staff members of the university while following the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP)

 

New Delhi: Jamia  Millia  Islamia (JMI)  on June 21 celebrated  8th  International  Day  of  Yoga, with the theme of the year as “Yoga for Humanity”. The main programme was organized by the Office of the Games & Sports at the NMAK Pataudi Sports Complex of the university.

JMI Vice Chancellor and the Chief Guest, Prof. Najma Akhtar inaugurated the programme that started at 07:30am. A spiritually invigorating Yoga session was practiced by NCC cadets, NSS volunteers and staff members of the university while following the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP). 

Yoga Expert Dr. Jai Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Yoga at Shri Lal Bahadur Shashtri National Sanskrit University guided students to perform and practice various Yoga Asanaas during the session.

The Vice Chancellor in her inaugural address underlined the importance of practicing Yoga for the benefit of one’s health. She also very proudly stated the fact that Yoga which originated from India is now being celebrated at an international level because of the efforts of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.  She stressed that Yoga should not be associated with any religion as it is a means of achieving physical as well as mental wellbeing. She encouraged participants to perform the Asanas of Yoga regularly to reap physical and mental benefits.

Dean Student Welfare (DSW) Prof. Ayub Khan talked about the origin, tenets and importance of Yoga during the opening remarks.  The welcome speech was delivered by JMI Registrar Prof. Nazim Husain Al-Jafri.  

JMI organized Yoga sessions, talks and other activities at various faculties and departments throughout the year for the preparation of International Day of Yoga 2022.
