New Delhi: It is a matter of great pride that Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) (NAAC A++ Accredited Central University) has been awarded Disaster Risk Reduction Excellence Award (WCDM- DRR Excellence  Award) for contributing immensely in various facets of the Disaster Management. The award was given by the prestigious research organization, World Congress on Disaster Management (WCDM) at the WCDM-DRR Awards Ceremony 2022 held at India International Centre (IIC) on June 22, 2022.

JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar and Registrar Prof. Nazim Husain Jafri received the award from Chief Guest of the programme Mr. G Krishna Reddy, Hon’ble Union Minister of Tourism, Culture and Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India.

JMI received the award in recognition of research, teaching and training which is being imparted by the University for the better management and mitigation of global natural disaster which is frequently happening across the world.

The function was also attended by Prof. Ibraheem, Dean Faculty of Engg. Technology, Prof. Atiqur Rahman, Chief Proctor & Prof. Sirajuddin Ahmad, Incharge Dept. of Environmental Sciences, JMI. A large gathering of National and International dignitaries, scientists, researchers, policymakers, practitioners and responders were also present.

WCDM is a unique initiative of DMICS to bring researchers, policy makers and practitioners from around the world in the same platform to discuss various challenging issues of disaster risk management. It is the biggest organization related to Anthropogenic and natural Disaster Management.
