JKLU Introduces PhD Program for Incoming Class of 2026

JAIPUR — Starting in May 2026, prospective PhD students will have the opportunity to apply for the JK Lakshmipat University (JKLU) PhD Program for the 2026 academic year. Applications have a closing date of July 15, 2026. To allow for the processing of completed applications, the school's PhD Entrance Test is on July 18, 2026. The university encourages early application due to limited seating.

Started in 2011, JKLU is backed by the 140+ year legacy of the JK Group. The university has an NAAC A-grade accreditation, is UGC approved, and is recognised as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research under India’s Ministry of Science and Technology. For prospective PhD candidates, especially those interested in research, these recognitions add to the university’s credibility.

The PhD program's duration is a minimum of two years and a maximum of five years. Research will be offered in the following streams: Engineering & Sciences, (Computer Science, Electronics, and Engineering in Mathematics, Mechanical, and Electrical), Management (Finance, HR, Marketing, Economics, Operations, and Entrepreneurship), and Humanities (English, Communication, Social Science, and Public Policy). This scope of research will give applicants, no matter how divergent their academic backgrounds are, a viable pathway into doctoral studies.

Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply and The Selection Process

Applicants to the JKLU PhD program must possess a Master’s degree in a pertinent field, achieving at least 55 percent aggregate marks or an equivalent CGPA. Students enrolled in the final year of a postgraduate program may also submit an application, with provisional admission granted upon the fulfilment of degree requirements. Reserved category candidates may receive a mark relaxation per UGC standards. The selection procedure occurs in three phases. Candidates are required to take the JKLU PhD Entrance Test or provide scores from UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, GATE, or an equivalent, national-level research examination. Candidates who have succeeded in these national examinations may be excused from the university's test. Following this, candidates must submit a research proposal, which will be evaluated by faculty. Those who are chosen will be invited to attend a personal interview or faculty interaction to gauge research intent, subject comprehension, and match with the university program.

The JKLU PhD Entrance Test assesses development in research, subject-specific knowledge, analytical and critical thinking, and either academic writing or problem-solving skills. The university prescribes the specific test’s duration and format, which candidates must consult before taking the test on the official admissions page. Candidates who have researched and committed years to advanced university-level study are encouraged to confirm their exemption with the admissions office.

Stipend, Faculty, and the Research Environment JKLU Offers

The JKLU PhD program offers one of the best benefits in the field - financial assistance. According to the university's marketing materials, full-time PhD students receive a monthly stipend of Rs 25,000. For committed researchers, aid addresses a problem that usually moves talented researchers toward part-time jobs or causes them to delay their PhDs. JKLU's faculty body includes academics affiliated with top design institutions such as the National Institute of Design and the IDC School of Design at IIT Bombay, all the way to faculty at some of the world's most prestigious universities. As the faculty-to-student ratio is around 1:17, it is designed to ensure that PhD students have supervised guidance throughout the program.

The university combines its excellent academic resources and modern labs to provide world-class research infrastructure. The interdisciplinary nature of the university’s research framework provides a useful context for scholars working on problems that combine disparate domains such as design, social science, and management. The research opportunities offered by the partner institutions and JKLU's student mobility program, which allows students to spend up to four semesters at some of the best IITs, IIITs, and international partner universities, are likely to make a significant addition to research conducted at the home campus.
