The Higher Education Department (HED) of Jammu and Kashmir has today, 22nd August 2026, concluded the registration process of the Phase-I undergraduate admission for the academic session 2026-27. The current admissions closing brings an end to the walk-in and physical counselling process for government degree colleges and constituent campuses across the Union Territory. Hundreds of students turned up at the college admission counters in Jammu and Kashmir divisions to secure admission in the vacant seats that were available before the last date.
Closure of Walk-In & Physical Counseling Process
The HED authorities have today directed the closure of the on-spot college counselling process in order to facilitate the maximum possible admissions in the general streams of degree colleges:
- Vacant Seat Filling: Physical verification of the documents and payment of college admission fee was allowed till today which enabled the colleges to fill the vacant seats in the Arts, Science, Commerce, and Vocational streams.
- On-spot Document Verification: The candidates were given an opportunity to walk-in and get their original documents verified along with the payment of admission/tuition fee at the college admission counters.
- Admission to CUET Qualified and Non-CUET Candidates: Equal opportunity was provided to both CUET qualified and non-CUET candidates against the vacant seats according to their merit in the respective Classes.
- Helpline for Subject Combination: College admission committees provided helpline assistance to the students in order to help them choose the desired course combinations.
Postponement of Phase-II Admission Till JKBOSE Results Declared
The UT administration has made it clear that the guidelines regarding Phase-II admissions will not be released right away after the closure of the first round of admissions. The Higher Education Department has stated that the date for conducting the second phase of college admission will be declared only after the declaration of JKBOSE Class 12th Bi-Annual results. In view of the above-mentioned reasons, the authorities have decided to withhold the second-phase admissions till the declaration of results in order to give students who have passed their qualifying examination a fair chance to pursue higher education without wasting a whole academic year.
Commencement of College Classes for the New Session 2026-27
The college classes in the degree colleges across J&K will commence from tomorrow, 23rd August 2026, with the start of the first semester. The Principals of various government degree colleges have conveyed that the academic sessions for the new admissions will start as per the common admission calendar. The college authorities have also directed the first-semester students to stay tuned to their respective college notice boards and WhatsApp groups for updates regarding the orientation programme, time-table, and roll number allocation.
Instructions Regarding Remaining Vacancies and Closure of Registrations
The students who were not able to secure admission in the first round of admissions should not lose heart as the college authorities will shortly release the vacancy list after compiling today’s final fee payment records. In addition to this, a new admission portal will be opened in accordance with Phase-II admission rules once the results of JKBOSE Class 12th Bi-Annual exams have been declared. Till then, the students are advised to keep their academic mark-sheets, category certificates, and domicile/original residence certificates handy in order to make the subsequent admission process hassle-free.
