In compliance with Independence Day 2026 celebrations being organized in August 15, the Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department has directed all the districts to conduct extensive student participation drives in preparation of the annual festival. The education department has instructed all government higher secondary schools, private recognized institutions, degree colleges to conduct youth participation programs ahead of the national day. The district chief education officers have been directed to ensure that student rallies, patriotic programs and environment conservation activities are undertaken in all educational institutes. In addition, special instructions have been given to organize such events to inculcate a sense of patriotism among the school going children. The education department officials stated that the district level committees are looking after report submission by all principal and headmasters on daily basis regarding student participation.
Student Tiranga Yatras Organised Across Schools -
As per the new guidelines issued by the J&K School Education Department, thousands of students from Kashmir valley and Jammu division have participated in the Tiranga Yatra. The school going children were seen marching in streets of many districts holding national flag while slogans of patriotism were being shouted. The teachers and local education authorities were also seen marching with the students to help manage traffic and discipline during the student rally. It may be noted that the main purpose of organizing such a tiranga procession was to get the youth involved in the Independence Day celebrations ahead of the main event on August 15. The local residents and village elders were also seen standing by the school boundaries to appreciate and encourage the young participates. The school heads and principals were also seen excited while stating that the street procession has created a great enthusiasm among the primary and secondary school students.
Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam: Tree Plantation In School Campuses -
In addition to organizing student rallies, the Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department has made it mandatory to conduct tree plantation campaigns within school campuses. The school going children from all districts were seen planting saplings of various fruits and shady trees under the nationwide campaign of "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam"("Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam"). The school plantation program was organized to create awareness among the students about the importance of environmental conservation:
- Student Honours: The children were encouraged to plant saplings as a special tribute to their mothers.
- Campus Development: The tree plantation was organized to improve ecological and environmental conditions of all government schools.
- Annual Care: Students were also informed to regularly water and take care of the planted saplings for twelve months.
Viksit Bharat 2047 Pledges And Cultural Activities In Schools -
In an effort to get the students involved in nation building activities, schools conducted morning assembly where the teachers spoke about Viksit Bharat 2047. As per the guidelines, the teachers briefed students about building a developed and modern country by 2047. The children were also seen making pledge to participate in Viksit Bharat 2047 initiatives for a developed and clean India. Various schools also organized inter-house competitions to promote cultural and artistic skills of school students. The competitions included:
- Patriotic Essays Writing Competition: Students participated in writing essays about Viksit Bharat 2047.
- Drawing & Painting Competitions: Children drew and painted pictures about history of independence movement.
- Freedom Fighter Quiz Competition: School students participated in quizzes about national freedom fighters.
NCC Contingents And Schools Parade Practices For Independence Day -
To ensure proper management and organization of Independence Day procession on August 15, special dress rehearsals are being conducted across all districts in Jammu and Kashmir. The National Cadet Corps contingents from senior and junior wings and student squadrons are practicing under the guidance of police officials. The government school band practice regularly to play patriotic songs and marches on the main day of national celebration. The district magistrate and education authorities are also seen inspecting the rehearsal to ensure availability of drinking water and first aid kits for the participants. The schools have so far completed all dress rehearsals to mark the national day of India.
