JEE Advanced 2026 Answer Key Released: What Happened and When
The more than 200,000 hopefuls who took the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) 2026 can now breathe a sigh of relief. IIT Roorkee, the conducting authority for this year's examination, released the provisional answer key on May 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM on the official jeeadv.ac.in portal. The examination was conducted on May 17, 2026, in two shifts with Paper 1 from 9: 00 AM to 12: 00 PM and Paper 2 from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM at examination centres throughout the nation.
Prior to the answer key, on May 21, IIT Roorkee published the candidates' response sheets, which provided students with a preview of the examination answers they provided. The order of this two-part process, response sheet first, then answer key, was designed to allow students to review their attempts before comparing them against the official answers. With the publication of both documents, student candidates can estimate their scores and decide what to do after the results.
Ways to Download the Answer Key
It is very easy to download the answer key for JEE Advanced 2026. You must go to the jeeadv.ac.in and find the provisional answer key. To log in, you need the JEE Advanced 2026 registration number, date of birth and mobile number for JEE Advanced 2026. After entering the candidate login page, the candidates can select to download answer key for Paper 1 and Paper 2 in PDF form. It is highly suggested to keep a copy of it as you can raise and submit objections until May 26, 2026, at 5:00 PM.
The answer sheets were also released to the candidates on May 21 and can be downloaded individually from the same login page. It is highly suggested to download both the answer key and the answer sheet, and place reference to both of them. This will help candidates to calculate their score and, if necessary, submit a formal challenge. The answer key is provided for all subjects of all 3 papers of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
JEE Advanced Score Calculation and Marking Scheme
Before estimating your JEE Advanced score, familiarise yourself with the exam's marking scheme. Each of the three question types has its own unique marking scheme. For questions with a single correct answer, candidates are awarded 3 points, and 1 point is deducted for incorrect answers. Questions with multiple correct answers are awarded between 0 and 4 points, with possible partial credit, and 2 points are deducted for incorrect answers. Type in questions are awarded 4 points, and there is no negative marking, making this question type the safest for candidates.
To calculate your score, candidates must take the answer sheet and make a note of the answers, then compare them to the official answer key, which will be in PDF format. For each question, apply the marking scheme and then take the total marks for each of the three subjects in each of the papers for both Paper 1 and Paper 2. Add up the total marks for both papers to estimate your rank. This score is used in estimations because the provisional key is subject to change after addressing any objections, and should be used as an approximate score until the final key is out on 1st June.
Objection Period, Final Key, and Result Release Date
Candidates who think that the provisional answer key is in error must act quickly, as there is a very limited window to object. IIT Roorkee has opened the objection portal from May 25, 10:00 AM to May 26, 5:00 PM. To file an objection, entrants must log in to the candidate portal, go to the objection or challenge section, select the Question ID to dispute, provide a PDF file of supporting evidence from a published academic reference, and pay a fee of Rs 500 to challenge the question. This fee may be paid by credit card, debit card, or net banking.
If the objection is accepted, a necessary change will be made to the final answer key, and the challenge fee will be reimbursed. After all the objections are addressed, IIT Roorkee will publish the final answer key. The JEE Advanced 2026 results, including category-wise All India Ranks (AIR), will be published on June 1, 2026, at jeeadv.ac.in. The successful candidates will be called to the JoSAA counselling for allocation of seats in the IITs and other participating institutions.
