JEE Advanced 2026 Exam Date, Eligibility, Pattern and Result | Full Guide

IIT Roorkee Confirmed, JEE Advanced 2026 will take place on May 17, 2026. Engineering hopefuls may find useful information regarding exam eligibility, exam pattern, admit card, JoSAA counselling, and much more before the exam window closes.

The Official Announcement

India's engineering entry test, JEE Advanced, has been confirmed for a date in 2026. IIT Roorkee, JEE Advanced's organising institute, confirmed through a notice on the JEE Advanced website, jeeadv.ac.in, that the exam will take place on Sunday, May 17, 2026. In December 2025, the date was announced, allowing those who qualified from JEE Main 2026 to focus and prepare for the remaining part of the exam. Indian citizens were allowed to apply from April 23, 2026, and the admit card distribution started on May 11, 2026, at 10:00 AM.

JEE Advanced builds the second and last part of the IIT admission system. Registration was only open for the top 2,50,000 students from JEE Main 2026, regardless of category. This year's JEE Advanced also claims the title of the longest reach of any test in India by hosting 221 separate examinations across the country and 2 separate examinations abroad. The sponsoring IITs for JEE Advanced include the other six zonal IITs, such as IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Guwahati. The results will be published on June 1, 2026, and JEE will then begin the JoSAA counselling.

Eligibility Criteria For Exam

Not all JEE Main qualifiers qualify for JEE Advanced. It is essential to know all the eligibility criteria before registering. IIT Roorkee has posted 5 criteria. All of them must be fully satisfied. The first criterion involves JEE Main 2026. A candidate must be among the top 250,000 rankers of the B.E/B.Tech. paper. These paper rankers must compete in the category-wise distribution for the OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS, and PwD sub-categories for the reserved seats.

The second criteria is age. General, OBC, and EWS candidates must be born on or after October 1, 2001. For SC, ST, and PwD candidates, there is a five year relaxation, meaning their cut-off is shifted to October 1, 1996. For the third criteria, there is a limit to the number of times JEE Advanced can be attempted, which is 2 times. One can attempt JEE Advanced in 2025 and still be eligible for 2026. One is not eligible if they have attempted in both 2024 and 2025. Criterion four includes Class 12 appearances. Candidates must first appear in their Class 12 or an equivalent board exam in 2025 or 2026. They are ineligible if they board in 2024 or earlier.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus

JEE Advanced 2026 has two papers that last 3 hours each and are held on the same day. Paper 1 is conducted between 9:00 AM and 12:00 noon and Paper 2 is between 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM. You will be disqualified from the merit list if you fail to attend either Paper 1 or Paper 2.

Both papers include questions pertaining to Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Questions are created from the Class 11 and Class 12 syllabi from various educational boards. However, it is important to note that the syllabus is more advanced than what most Boards and JEE Main require.

The number of questions, total score, and the marking scheme also change according to the organising institute each year. IIT Roorkee is likely to keep its tradition of creating numerically accurate and conceptually advanced questions, particularly for Physics and Mathematics. The marking scheme consists of several types of questions, including multiple correct answer type questions, single correct answer questions, and numerical value type questions. Certain types of questions also apply negative marking.

The syllabus comprises core concepts in Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism, and Modern Physics in Physics; Organic, Inorganic, and Physical Chemistry; and Algebra, Calculus, Geometry, Vectors, and 3D Geometry in Mathematics. IIT Roorkee has not made any changes pertaining to JEE Advanced 2026 syllabus relative to the last year. The fifth and final condition is that if a candidate has accepted an IIT seat through JoSAA, they cannot appear for JEE Advanced 2026, no matter the previous admission circumstances.

Application, Admit Card, Results and Counselling
