New Delhi: In a significant move, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) has revised the eligibility criteria for JEE (Advanced) 2025, reinstating the earlier rule on the number of attempts. This decision, made during a meeting on November 15, 2024, aligns with the criteria followed since 2013 and supersedes the announcement made earlier this month on November 5, 2024. The change seeks to address diverse requirements and ensure fairness for all aspirants.

Here’s a rundown of the updated eligibility criteria:

For Indian Nationals and OCI/PIO Card Holders (Pre-2021):
JEE (Main) Performance:
Candidates must rank among the top 2,50,000 in JEE (Main) 2025 B.E./B.Tech. Paper I.

Reservation Breakdown:
10% for GEN-EWS
27% for OBC-NCL
15% for SC
7.5% for ST
40.5% open to all categories
A horizontal 5% reservation applies for PwD candidates in all categories.
OCI/PIO Candidates (Pre-2021):
These candidates will compete in the Open category but will not receive reservations under GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, or ST. They must meet all eligibility criteria and rank in the Common Rank List (CRL).

For Foreign Nationals and OCI/PIO Card Holders (Post-2021):
Foreign nationals do not need to qualify through JEE (Main) and can directly register for JEE (Advanced) 2025. Their admission is capped at 10% of the total seats and considered supernumerary.

Post-2021 OCI/PIO candidates must meet the foreign national criteria without entitlement to Indian reservation benefits.

General Criteria for All Candidates:
Age Limit: Candidates must be born on or after October 1, 2000. Exceptions exist for mandatory armed forces service requirements.
Attempts Limit: Candidates are allowed a maximum of three attempts in three consecutive years.
Class 12 Qualification: Candidates must have appeared for their Class 12 exam for the first time in 2023, 2024, or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
IIT Admission History: Those previously admitted to any IIT, except under preparatory courses or specific conditions, are not eligible.
Why the Change?
The reinstated criteria aim to restore consistency and address concerns raised by the student community and education experts. JAB continues to emphasize inclusivity while maintaining the rigorous standards JEE (Advanced) is known for.
