7th Jamia Premier League 2026 Concludes with Enthusiasm; Team Architecture Clinches Maiden Title

Jamia Millia Islamia’s JPL 2026 concludes with high enthusiasm. Faculty of Architecture wins first title; Raj Kumar Sharma attends as chief guest.

New Delhi. ; Jamia Millia Islamia successfully concluded the 7th Edition of the Jamia Premier League (JPL) 2026, a staff T-20 cricket tournament, with great उत्साह and participation at its Sports Complex. The month-long tournament, held from March 26 to April 23, witnessed spirited competition among teaching and non-teaching staff.

A record 21 teams and around 350 staff members from various faculties and administrative departments participated, reflecting strong engagement and sportsmanship across the university. The league matches, held on weekends and holidays, attracted enthusiastic spectators from the campus community.

After competitive knockout rounds, University Polytechnic and the Faculty of Architecture advanced to the finals. In a thrilling final match held on April 23, the Faculty of Architecture emerged as champions, winning their first-ever JPL title and remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament.

The grand closing and prize distribution ceremony was graced by renowned cricket coach Raj Kumar Sharma, coach of Virat Kohli, as the Chief Guest. University officials, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif and Registrar Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, were also present.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated all teams and emphasized the importance of sports in maintaining physical fitness and team spirit. The Registrar highlighted how sports contribute to stress reduction, improved productivity, and better work-life balance.

Chief Guest Raj Kumar Sharma praised the initiative, noting that such sporting events foster teamwork, positive relationships, and a healthy work culture. The organizing team from the Games & Sports Department was also appreciated for successfully conducting the large-scale event.

Organized under the Fit India Movement, the tournament aims to promote fitness and well-being among university staff. Over the years, the Jamia Premier League has become a significant annual sporting event, strengthening camaraderie and encouraging active lifestyles within the university.
