New Delhi, April 7, 2026 : The Centre for Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences (CPRS), Jamia Millia Islamia, organized a highly engaging and informative seminar on “IPR Laws for Physiotherapists”. The seminar aimed at fostering awareness, innovation, and legal literacy among physiotherapy professionals, academicians, and students.The seminar was conducted under the esteemed patronage of Prof. Mazhar Asif, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia, and Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, Jamia Millia Islamia, with overall leadership by Prof. Zubia Veqar, Director, CPRS.
The programme commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the inaugural ceremony. In her welcome address, Prof. Zubia Veqar emphasized the evolving landscape of physiotherapy, where innovation and research play a pivotal role. She encouraged participants to move beyond traditional clinical approaches and actively engage in developing novel solutions, underscoring the importance of Intellectual Property Rights as a means to protect, validate, and translate ideas into meaningful healthcare advancements. Prof. Tanuja, Dean, Academic Affairs, Jamia Millia Islamia graced the occasion with her presence. During her address she highlighted the significance of nurturing creativity and interdisciplinary collaboration in contemporary healthcare education. She stressed that awareness and application of IPR laws not only safeguard innovation but also empower young professionals to contribute effectively to scientific progress and societal well-being. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Chhavi Arora Sehgal (PT), followed by the National Anthem.
The academic segment of the seminar brought together eminent experts in intellectual property law and healthcare innovation. Ms. Suvarna Pandey, Associate Partner at RNA Technology and IP Attorneys, delivered an insightful lecture on “Patentability of Inventions in India,” elaborating on essential criteria, patent drafting processes, and strategic considerations for securing intellectual property, particularly within the healthcare domain.
Mr. Daleep Kumar, Partner at RNA Technology and IP Attorneys, conducted the second session on “Copyright Registration and Enforcement in India.” His talk provided a comprehensive overview of copyright protection, infringement issues, and enforcement mechanisms, with specific relevance to academic and clinical practice.
The final lecture was delivered by Dr. Pragya, Associate Professor at Amity Institute of Health and Allied Sciences, Noida, on “Patent Designing from a Physiotherapy Perspective.” She effectively bridged the gap between clinical practice and innovation, guiding participants on transforming practical ideas into patentable concepts and encouraging a culture of research-driven innovation in physiotherapy.
The seminar concluded with a succinct synthesis of key insights by Dr. Shabnam (PT), who emphasized the imperative of integrating IPR education into physiotherapy curricula and research practices. She also expressed gratitude to the speakers for their invaluable contributions.
