West Bengal’s Jadavpur University Enters Active Phase of 2026 ICC Student Representative Elections

Jadavpur University begins ICC Student Representative elections 2026 with nomination forms open till March 25, voting on April 8, and results on April 9, ensuring transparent student representation.

KOLKATA, March 20 — Jadavpur University has transitioned into a critical phase of its Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) Student Representative Election cycle, with the campus administrative machinery operating at full capacity to oversee the nomination process. Following the successful conclusion of the period for submitting corrections to the provisional voter list yesterday at 5:00 p.m., the university’s focus has now shifted entirely to the distribution of nomination forms, which commenced on March 18 and is scheduled to continue till March 25.

The Office of the Dean of Students, acting in the capacity of the Returning Officer, has issued a comprehensive set of directives to ensure that the selection of representatives from the Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate levels, spanning the Faculty Councils of Arts, Engineering, and Science, is conducted with the highest degree of transparency and procedural rigor. This election serves as a vital democratic exercise, allowing regular students from both Day and Evening sections to secure formal representation within the university's primary body for addressing internal grievances. The current window for obtaining nomination forms, available at the office of the Dean of Students between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on weekdays, is governed by stringent eligibility criteria designed to maintain the integrity of the student leadership.

According to the guidelines released by the Returning Officer, only regular students whose names appear in the Muster Roll are eligible to contest or propose candidates. Notably, casual students and those designated as repeaters are strictly prohibited from participating in either capacity. Prospective nominees are faced with exacting administrative standards, as any nomination paper failing to meet specific clerical requirements will be subject to immediate cancellation. These requirements include the exclusive use of blue or black ballpoint pens for filling out forms, the necessity of full signatures rather than initials for both the candidate and the proposer, and the mandatory requirement that all candidates and proposers must have cleared their current session fees prior to filing. Furthermore, the administration has emphasized that a voter may sign as a proposer for only one candidate, a measure intended to ensure a broad and fair distribution of support across the competing field. A central pillar of the validation process this year is the mandatory verification of all nomination papers by the Muster Roll (MR) Section, a step that must be completed before the final submission of documents. It remains the sole responsibility of the contesting students to ensure their identity and studentship status are duly verified by this section, as incomplete forms or those lacking the MR verification will be rejected without exception.

Once the current distribution phase concludes, the university will publish the corrected voter list on March 23, setting the stage for the formal submission of nomination forms between March 27 and March 30. During this period, candidates must insert their completed and verified forms into the designated boxes kept at the Office of the Dean of Students. This will be followed by a high-stakes scrutiny of nominations on April 1 at the Students Amenity Centre, where the final list of valid candidates will be announced and circulated immediately upon completion of the review.

As the campus prepares for the upcoming vote on April 8, 2026, the university has released a detailed polling schedule to accommodate its diverse student body. Voting for the Day section (UG & PG) will take place from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m., while the Evening section (UG & PG) will cast their ballots from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at their respective faculty departments. The administration has reminded all eligible voters that they must carry their university-issued Photo Identity Cards to the polls, as the right to cast a vote will be withdrawn for any student unable to produce this documentation upon request. The entire process will culminate on April 9 with the declaration of results, at which point the new ICC Student Representatives will be officially recognized. This structured timeline reflects the university’s commitment to a robust and orderly electoral process, ensuring that the student voice remains a cornerstone of Jadavpur University’s governance as it moves further into the 2026 academic year.
