The Joint Admission Committee (JAC), Chandigarh has officially started the online choice filling and locking process for Round 2 engineering counselling. The window opened on July 15, 2026, and it is going to close very soon on July 17, 2026. Students who are waiting for BTech and BE admissions can now fill their preferences by visiting the official website at jacchd.admissions.nic.in.
This round is very important because many seats have become vacant after the first round fee payment got over on July 13. The authority have told that no extra registration fee will be taken from already registered candidates who want to change their choices in this round. Students needs to log in using their JEE Main 2026 application number and password to complete the process inside the portal.
Important Dates and Schedule for Students :
The official schedule released by the committee shows that the time given for choice filling is very short. Candidates only have from July 15 to July 17, 2026, to lock their final engineering choices. After the portal closes on July 17, the university will prepare the second round seat allotment list based on JEE Main ranks and the options filled by the candidates.
The official announcement for the Round 2 seat allotment result will come out on July 18, 2026. After the result is out, students who get a seat will have to pay their online admission fees and submit their willingness from July 18 to July 20, 2026. If someone want to withdraw from the counselling after Round 2, they can do it on July 21, 2026.
Eligibility Criteria for Round 2 Counselling :
Many students are confused about who can participate in this round. The authority have cleared that multiple types of students are eligible. Firstly, those registered candidates who did not get any seat in the first round can fill fresh choices. If they does not change anything, their old choices from Round 1 will be considered automatically.
Secondly, students who got a seat in Round 1 and chose the 'Float' or 'Upgradation' option after paying the fee can also participate to try for a better college or branch. However, students who chose "No upgradation" in the first round are not allowed to change their choices now. No fresh new registrations are being accepted at this stage of the counselling.
Top Participating Institutes and Offered Courses :
JAC Chandigarh conducts this centralized admission process for very popular technical institutes in the region. The main colleges include the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) at Panjab University, Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET), and Dr. S. S. Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology.
These institutes offers Bachelor of Technology (BTech), Bachelor of Engineering (BE), and Integrated BE-MBA programs in various fields like Computer Science, Mechanical, and Electrical engineering. Admissions are purely based on Paper 1 ranks of JEE Main 2026 exam. Every college have their own quota rules, like the Chandigarh internal quota and All India quota, which affects the final seat allocation.
Steps to Lock Choices and Avoid Mistakes :
To complete the choice filling, candidates have to follow a few simple steps on the portal. After logging in, students should go to the "Candidate Activity" section and open the choice filling tab. They can add new college options, remove old ones, or reorder them using the up and down buttons.
The department have strictly advised students to save their choices frequently so that data does not get lost due to internet issues. After arranging everything according to preference, clicking on "Lock Choices" is necessary. If a student forgets to lock manually, the system will automatically lock the last saved choices when the deadline ends on July 17. It is good to download the confirmation page for future proof.
