West Bengal. :The InterPore India Annual Workshop 2026 has commenced at IIT Kharagpur, bringing together academicians, researchers, scientists, students and industry professionals working in the field of porous media. The two-day workshop is being held on September 25 and 26, 2026, with a focus on advancing porous media science and engineering for a sustainable future.
Organised by the InterPore India Chapter, the workshop provides a platform for participants to share research, exchange ideas and discuss emerging directions in porous media research and its applications.

Six Major Themes to Be Discussed
The InterPore India Annual Workshop 2026 covers a broad range of research areas related to porous media.
1. Transport Processes in Porous Media
This theme covers areas including pore-scale models, network modelling, electrokinetics, molecular-scale theories, multiphase transport and microfluidics.
2. In Silico Methods for Porous Media Analysis
The sessions under this theme focus on digital rock analysis, CT scan analysis, homogenisation techniques and coarse-grained approaches for studying porous media.
3. Upstream Processes in Porous Media
Research areas include enhanced oil recovery, fractures in basalt, hydrogeology, shale gas recovery, gas hydrates, CO₂ geostorage and mineralisation.
4. Solid Mechanics of Porous Materials
This theme addresses polymers, ceramics and composites, structural interactions, deformable porous materials, 3D printing of porous structures and material characterisation. The workshop information also highlights H₂ storage in this area.
5. Applications of Porous Materials
The applications-focused theme includes membranes for gas and liquid separation, packed bed reactors, adsorbers, drying and coal gasification.
6. Emerging Fields
The workshop also explores emerging applications of porous materials in electrochemical systems, including fuel cells, electrolysers and batteries. Biological applications such as scaffolds, 3D-printed biomimetic porous tissue and biomicrofluidics are also included.
