International Yoga Day 2022: Educational institutions across India celebrates yoga day

New Delhi: The 8th International Day of Yoga is being observed by the world with the 2022 yoga day theme: Yoga for Humanity. The United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga on December 11, 2014. The International Yoga Day 2022 is being observed with the objective to raise awareness regarding the benefits one could get out of practicing yoga. "Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness," says the UN website. Many educational institutes are celebrating International Yoga Day 2022 by hosting a variety of programmes.

The Delhi University is organizing a "yoga week" programme to commemorate the 8th International Day of Yoga. According to the vice-chancellor of the University of Delhi, Yogesh Singh, yoga and Ayurveda help in the prevention of diseases. As per PTI reports, many DU officials, including Singh and performed asanas at the inaugural ceremony. "We decided to organize this yoga week as it might motivate people to adopt it in their life," Singh said. He further said that yoga helps in maintaining the balance of mind and body and that yoga helps in staying happy and positive.

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-Delhi) is celebrating the International Yoga Day 2022 by conducting a "Yoga Fest" with various programmes such as meditation workshops, webinars, talk show and even running.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) celebrated the International Yoga Day 2022 with a mass yoga practice under the leadership of JNU VC Santishree D Pandit and rector Ajay Dubey. Pandit said that yoga practice is crucial for a healthy mind and body.

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University organized a mass yoga session to observe the International Yoga Day 2022. The programme was attended by the JMI VC Najma Akhtar, students and officials.

The vice-chancellor of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Sudhir K Jain, joined the BHU fraternity in practicing Yoga asanas at Malaviya Bhavan as the university celebrated the International Yoga Day 2022.
