Initiative of students of BHU: 40 types of artifacts made from 60 kg of junk

Varanasi: Artefacts made of scrap will give the message of environmental protection. An initiative by the students of the Faculty of Visual Arts, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) will tackle solid waste. A team of 40 students is preparing about 60 kg of junk, 40 types of art work and public utility items.

In a four-day workshop organized at the Design Innovation Centre at the Faculty of Visual Arts, students made children's toys, decorations and a range of daily use items out of iron, wood and plastic waste. Dr. Manish Arora, the coordinator of the Design Innovation Centre, told that his team will train the students as well as the waste pickers in this art work.

This will make them self-reliant and their source of income will be ready. In the workshop, ten artists are also giving training to the participants in scrap art. Useful and attractive artefacts are being prepared from the scrap materials like scrap metal, electronic waste, plastic waste. All these art works will be decorated in the gallery of the institute on International Design Day on 27th April.

Horse made of scrap sold for five lakhs: Each participant has to prepare an artwork in the workshop being run by Saurabh Singh, a research student of BHU. Recently, Saurabh made a horse out of scrap in Ramoji Rao Film City, Hyderabad, which has been sold to Film City Hyderabad for five lakh rupees.
