New Delhi: After the case of Indians held hostage in Myanmar, the Indian government issued an advisory regarding fake job rackets targeting IT-skilled youth.

The advisory released by the Ministry of External Affairs says that missions in Bangkok and Myanmar have uncovered fake job rackets by dubious IT firms in Thailand which are involved in call-center scams and cryptocurrency fraud.

The fake job rackets are enticing Indian IT-skilled youth for posts of digital sales and marketing executives, the release said.

"The target groups are IT skilled youth who are duped in the name of lucrative data entry jobs in Thailand through social media advertisements as well as by Dubai and India based agents," the advisory added.

Those who fall victim to the fake job rackets are illegally taken across the border, mostly into Myanmar, and are made to work under harsh conditions while being held captive.

The government advisory thus warned Indian nationals to go get entrapped in these fake job offers which are being spread through social media or other sources.

"Before traveling on tourist/visit visa for employment purposes, Indian nationals are advised to check/verify credentials of foreign employers through concerned Missions abroad, and antecedents of recruiting agents as well as any company before taking up any job offer," the notice said.
