New Delhi: In a landmark move to strengthen India’s research and innovation ecosystem, Blockchain for Impact (BFI) has launched the India Reimagined Fellowship, a prestigious ₹2.5 crore (USD 300,000) global programme designed to attract top-tier scientists, researchers, clinicians, and innovators to work in Indian institutions.

The fellowship aims to bring exceptional global and Indian-origin talent back to India to build sustainable ‘impact engines’ that address critical challenges in biomedical science and public health.

Unlike conventional grant programmes, the India Reimagined Fellowship is open only through institutional nominations, not individual applications—ensuring accountability and long-term institutional support.

Funding Structure and Disbursement

Each selected fellow will receive USD 300,000 (approximately ₹2.5 crore) over three years, released in three annual tranches of USD 100,000 (₹88 lakh each). The funding will be transferred directly to the host institution, covering project implementation, laboratory expenses, salaries, equipment, and travel.

Only FCRA-approved Indian institutions are eligible to host fellows. Institutions must open a dedicated project account and submit annual progress and financial reports for continued disbursement.

Disbursements will be contingent on expert review panel evaluations, based on milestones, publications, and measurable project outcomes. The final tranche will be released after a successful mid-term review and submission of a detailed completion report.

How to Apply

The fellowship will follow a structured nomination-based application process:

  • Institutional Nomination: The host institution identifies an outstanding researcher or innovator abroad willing to relocate to India.
  • Institutional Commitment: The nominating institution must ensure infrastructure, fund management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Nomination Package: Includes the nominee’s CV, a detailed 10-page research proposal, recommendation letters, and a commitment letter from the host institution.
  • Submission: Applications must be emailed to india.reimagined@blockchainforimpact.nl  by January 31, 2026.

Selections will be made on a rolling basis, with final decisions announced within 12 weeks of submission.
