New Delhi. : The Government of India has launched two new visa categories for international students aiming to pursue higher education in the country. These are the 'e-student visa' and the 'e-student-x visa,' introduced by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Both visa types require applicants to use the government’s 'Study in India' (SII) portal for the application process.
Key Features of the New Visa Categories:
E-Student Visa:
- Available to eligible foreign students registered on the SII portal.
- Granted to those admitted to undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD, or other formal full-time programs at recognized Indian educational institutions.
- Valid for up to five years, with the possibility of extension within India.
E-Student-X Visa:
- Designed for dependents of e-student visa holders.
Admission and Application Process:
- Students must apply to Indian higher educational institutions through the SII website.
- Admission offers from SII partner institutes are mandatory before applying for the visa.
- Visa applications are processed on the Indian Visa Online portal, with authenticity verified via the unique SII ID assigned to each student.
