Recruiting, Teaching and Industry Partnerships at the Centre Refine the Higher Learning System by Enriching Branches of Learning
Higher Education News from New Delhi: Expanding recruitment, teaching, and industry-academia partnerships as components of NEP 2020 makes it possible for the Ministry of Education to elevate the quality of teaching and the performance of institutions in the higher education sector.
The Minister of State for Education Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, made a statement in response to an Unstarred Question in the Rajya Sabha about these initiatives.
Mission Mode Faculty Recruitment
One of the unique recruitment strategies to mitigate talent shortages in Central Higher Education Institutions (CHEIs) is Mission Mode Faculty Recruitment. This includes:
- Vacancies for teaching faculty at CHEIs being filled as a continuous, ongoing activity.
- Clearing SC/ST/OBC vacancies that have been pending for recruitment in an affirmative manner.
- Recruitment through the CU-Chayan Portal, a centralized, digital system for the appointment of faculty in the Central Universities.
- Transparent recruitment with facilitation for easy access.
Excellence of Faculty
Since the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme (MMTTP) 2023, a differentiated approach has been adopted to develop faculty. Some of the important features include:
- The establishment of 151 Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centres (MMTTC) in different states.
- Over 400,000 faculty members have been trained.
- The advancements made have been focused on the quality of teaching, institutional performance, and the enhancement of the academic outcomes of the faculty.
Building Stronger Partnerships Between Business and Education
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has added an additional way to connect businesses and universities using the expanded Professor of Practic The system:
- Offers teaching opportunities for qualified industry professionals.
- Was established from UGC Guidelines on 30 September 2022.
- Increases mentoring and teaching opportunities to stimulate innovation and develop curricula.
- Promotes active learning.
Makes the integration of real-world activities from various industries available to students.
Enhancing Research and Innovation
The Ministry has remarked on the improvement of India's ranking in research and innovation on a global scale. Some important measures include:
- Global Innovation Index: Improved rankings from 66th in 2013 to 40th in 2023.
- Global Patent Applications: Improved rankings from 8th in (2013) to 6th in (2023).
- India holds the 3rd position in the world for publications in Engineering and in the Sciences.
AICTE and Improvement of Institutional Quality
Outcomes of numerous reforms include the following initiated by AICTE and other higher education bodies.
- Education reforms for Outcomes and Results.
- The National Credit Framework (NCrF).
- The regular integration of internships.
- Universal Human Values curriculum.
- Indian Knowledge Systems.
- Tech integration.
The Ministry has also improved the capacity of institutions through the following:
- National Initiative for Technical Teachers Training (NITTT).
- Quality Improvement Programme.
- Academic Leadership.
- Research Promotion.
- Industry Fellowship.
- International initiatives and the mobility of scholars.
Focus on NEP 2020
The Ministry argues that these reforms are in line with the objectives of NEP 2020 in terms of having a higher education system that is skilled, research-oriented, and globally competitive. This can be achieved through the right balance of improvements in teaching, institutional governance, and industry engagement.

From the recent changes introduced by the Ministry of Education, it is evident that the government is attempting to further improve the higher education of India by addressing the shortage of teachers, improving the quality of teaching, and bridging the gap between education and the industrial world.
