Bengaluru- The REVA University, through its School of Applied Sciences and Department of Biotechnology, will organise a three-day hands-on workshop titled “Integrating Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics: Hands-on Training (IMBBI-2026)” from 10 to 12 February 2026. The workshop is being conducted by the REVA Research Centre – Centre for Biotechnology and Molecular Biology, in association with the Indian National Science Academy (INSA).
The workshop aims to provide an intensive research-oriented learning experience by integrating molecular biology, biochemistry and bioinformatics approaches with special emphasis on protein phosphorylation, kinase activity and cancer cell by using both in vitro and in silico models.
The programme will begin with an inaugural session addressed by Vinod Scarier, Chief Data Offiicer, Karkinos Healthcare, Bengaluru, and Adjunct Professor at IIT Kanpur. He will also deliver a guest lecture titled “We are the Genome Generation.”
Workshop Schedule and Academic Content
Day 1: Fundamentals of animal and cancer cell culture maintenance, including cell thawing, seeding, viability analysis, protein isolation from cancer cell lines, and protein estimation using ELISA plate readers.
Day 2: Analytical techniques such as SDS-PAGE electrophoresis, Western blotting, PCR, and RT-PCR, along with exposure to advanced laboratory instruments including multimode readers and imaging systems.
Day 3: Bioinformatics training covering protein phosphorylation analysis, protein sequence alignment, conservation studies, protein–protein interaction networks, and pathway analysis using databases and tools such as PhosphoSitePlus, UniProt, KEGG, BLAST, Clustal Omega, and STRING. The day will also include assessment and expert interactions.
The valedictory session will be held at 3:30 PM on the final day, with Ram Sudheer Aduri, Director (in vivo Pharmacology – Discovery Biology), Aragen Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, as the resource person.
The workshop is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students research scholars.Add faculty members with a total intake of 25 participants. The event will be hosted at the Department of Biotechnology, School of Applied Sciences, REVA Research Centre, Bengaluru.
Organisers stated that the workshop is designed to bridge the gap between experimental biology and computational analysis, equipping participants with practical skills in proteomics, biomarker analysis, phosphorylation studies, and bioinformatics evaluation, thereby strengthening research capacity in biomedical and life sciences.
